How to Decorate Your Hallway https://www.londonlocalservices.co.uk/how-to-decorate-your-hallway/ https://www.londonlocalservices.co.uk/how-to-decorate-your-hallway/#comments Mon, 18 Feb 2013 09:37:08 +0000 https://www.londonlocalservices.co.uk/?p=2420 Continue reading ]]> hallway-5

When it comes to home décor, the hallway is usually forgotten and is most deprived from attention and ideas. A lot of people underestimate it, because of its insignificant size or because they don’t spend a lot of time in this part of their home.

Actually, the hallway has a very responsible role in the house – to welcome the guests. It represents the comfort and the whole atmosphere of the rest of the home. Hence, it should be welcoming, cosy and organized. To achieve this effect and find inspiration, read the following tips for decorating a hallway:

Colour and Mood

hallway-2

You can create a pleasant mood in the hallway by using lovely colours, such as pastel hues, light orange, blue, green or earth tones. The most important thing is to avoid dark colours, which will make the hallway gloomy and unwelcoming. Some people prefer to decorate the hallway with colourful wallpapers, while others rely on paler paint, diversified with photos or paintings.

Furniture

hallway-7

Depending on the size of the premise, you can decorate the hallway with a wardrobe, in which you can keep all your coats and jackets. Or you can choose one with little space for hangers and more space for shoes for example. A very nice idea is to replace the drawers of the closet with rattan baskets, in which you can store keys, slippers, scarves, gloves, hats, wallets and so on.

hallway-3

The drawers on the other hand can be used as modules of a shelf for keeping a telephone book, a notepad, pencils, etc. A chest may be a good suggestion for your hallway, because you can store a lot of shoe boxes in it and when it is closed, you can use it as a bench.

Comfort

hallway-4

It is very important to organize the hallway in such a way, that both guests and hosts will feel at ease. Here is a neat idea – no matter if you use a shoe cabinet, a chest or a bench, cover the top with decorative pillows or colourful upholstery.

A basket for slippers, a hanger, a vase for umbrellas, a cork board for letters and notes will all contribute to the comfort of your hallway. If you add a flower in a pot and a mirror, your hallway will pleasantly surprise everyone entering your home.

The Dirty Secrets of a Clean Home https://www.londonlocalservices.co.uk/the-dirty-secrets-of-a-clean-home/ https://www.londonlocalservices.co.uk/the-dirty-secrets-of-a-clean-home/#comments Wed, 30 Jan 2013 10:22:54 +0000 https://www.londonlocalservices.co.uk/?p=2289 Continue reading ]]> Every woman tries to maintain her home spick and span, because a clean home is a sign of a good housewife. But even the cleanest home has its dirty secrets and it’s time to reveal them.dirty-secrets-clean-home

The dirty secrets of the clean home are hidden in the décor details, the ones that make a room look cosy and comfortable. These interior elements have a decorative function and this is the reason why often they don’t receive the needed attention.

The truth is, that no matter how many efforts a woman puts in making her home spotless, she will feel very uncomfortable when the dirty secrets come out. And this usually happens in the most inappropriate moment. If you want to avoid these unpleasant emotions, you should remember cleaning your home every few weeks in order to unravel its dirty secrets.

Dirty Secret 1 – Pillows pillows

Many housewives don’t wash the pillows in their home. As time passes, the dirty pillows can affect not only your good sleep, but your health as well. Pillows filled with foam or synthetic fabric can be cleaned in a washing machine, but separately from other clothes and using a slow program.

Pillows filled with down and feathers should be hand washed, otherwise they will be destroyed. Soak them in warm water mixed with detergent and when they are thoroughly soaked, mash them gently. Throw away the dirty water and squish the pillow down to get out the remaining water. Wrap the pillow in a towel, which will absorb the rest of the water and afterwards let it dry completely.

Dirty Secret 2 – Windowsclean-windows

The windows are the eyes of a home. They let the natural daylight inside and that’s why they need to be clean. But many housewives make the same basic mistake – they try to wash the windows under the hot sun rays. The direct sunlight causes the instant evaporation of the detergent, before you manage to wipe it away. This leaves nasty marks on the glass surface, which can clearly be seen during the day.

The most appropriate time for cleaning windows is early in the morning or after the sunset, when the windows have cooled off. Touch them and if you feel warmth, you should wait more. First apply the detergent all over the window with a slightly wet sponge. Then wipe it off with a cloth, which should be washed with clean water after every move. At the end, wipe the windows with old newspapers to avoid any marks.

Dirty Secret 3 – Curtains and Drapesclean-curtains

Decorative curtains usually are easy to maintain – you can wash them in the washing machine or by hand. Drapes, especially the ones made from plush or velvet, are harder to clean. They gather a lot of dust, because of the mossy fabric, but there is a way to deal with this problem. Soak a cloth in warm water, squeeze it and then carefully rub it along the drapes. You can vacuum the dust beforehand or clean it with a soft brush, but in this way you risk spreading the dust in the whole room.

Dirty Secret 4 – Upholsteryclean-upholstery

To freshen up the upholstered furniture, use a vacuum cleaner on high speed and a narrow nozzle, which will allow you to reach every hidden part. Don’t forget the corners and all sides of the furniture pillows, as well as the frame underneath them.

If you have to use a special detergent for upholstery to clean a stubborn stain, don’t apply it directly to the spot unless you have already tried its effect on the fabric. Sometimes unpleasant chemical reactions occur, which can destroy your piece of furniture.

If you have a pet, probably its smell has been absorbed by the upholstery. Sprinkle the furniture with baking soda, let it stay for about 15 minutes and then hoover it.
We have already covered the topic “how to clean leather furniture” and you can find very useful tips in it.

If your schedule is too busy and you don’t have time to deal with the dirty secrets of your home, you can always find a reliable cleaning company, which can help you with that. I recommend this one: http://www.flatcleaninglondon.co.uk/

Transformed Water Tower in London https://www.londonlocalservices.co.uk/transformed-water-tower-in-london/ https://www.londonlocalservices.co.uk/transformed-water-tower-in-london/#comments Wed, 23 Jan 2013 10:46:07 +0000 https://www.londonlocalservices.co.uk/?p=2229 Continue reading ]]> Water towers aren’t usually connected with modern style and creativity. But this particular tower in London captured the eyes of Leigh Osbourne and Graham Voce, who bought it in 2008 for £395,000 and then completely redesigned it.

The amazing redesigned water tower in London.

Nowadays, the water tower is no longer old-fashioned. On the contrary, it is an amazing luxury home, which consists of four bedrooms, a gym, a rooftop terrace. The unique open living space, located on the first two floors, is called “the cube” and one of its best features is the 360 degree view of our beautiful London. As if it is not modern and luxury enough, the transformed water tower even has a lift – stunning, right?
Below, I have selected several photos of the spectacular luxury home, so you can have a quick tour. You can find more pictures of the transformed water tower here.

Winter Decoration Ideas https://www.londonlocalservices.co.uk/winter-decoration-ideas/ https://www.londonlocalservices.co.uk/winter-decoration-ideas/#comments Mon, 14 Jan 2013 10:43:27 +0000 https://www.londonlocalservices.co.uk/?p=2093 Continue reading ]]> winter-decoration-ideasWho says that Christmas is the only time during winter when you can decorate your home? Instead of being grumpy and nostalgic about the passed holidays, you can set a nice, winter mood in your home. Wonder how do to this? Just take a look at this easy ideas for winter decoration.

Typical Winter Materials

winter-materials-1

“Furnish” your home with materials, which are typical for the season. What I have in mind is suede, wool, leather or velvet – they are doing a great job for this purpose. Of course, yarn is never out of fashion, so don’t forget to include it in your home decor project. Wood is often related to winter and it brings warmth in your house. Therefore try to implement some kind of wooden element in the winter decoration.

Old Metal Lanterns

old-metal-lanterns-1

Such lanterns look beautiful and stylish, especially when you place them on the window sill, so even the people passing by will notice your good taste. The old metal lanterns will also be helpful in creating a romantic atmosphere when you are in such a mood.
To make them look more winter, you can fill them up silver, white or blue ball ornaments. Another idea is to put candles inside the old lanterns. They will be so inspiring, that even if you are not a photographer, you will want to take a few photos of them.

Silver Elements

winter-silver-ornaments-1

Surely, you can rely on different silver decorative ornaments, which will assist you in creating the perfect winter atmosphere at home. These silver elements can be candles, fruit trays, painted pinecones, photo frames, tablecloths, napkins, etc. Put your imagination to work.

Winter in the Bathroom

winter-bathroom-1

When decorating your home for the current season, don’t forget the bathroom. You can do this by hanging a shower curtain decorated with typical winter ornaments, such as snowflakes or snowmen. If you are not able to find such a curtain, you can arrange in a basket several towels with sewn winter emblems on them.

Paper Snowflakes

This idea is well-known and can be used even after Christmas and New Year’s Eve. It’s very easy and cheap version for winter decoration. It’s not obligatory to make the snowflakes white. You can choose paper in different colours and create your own snowflake patterns. Once you cut them out, you can hang then on curtains, stick them to windows or let them hang from the chandelier.

More Ideas

In addition to your winter decoration, you can use wood carvings, winter wreath or a vase with alder branches.

Modern Office Design https://www.londonlocalservices.co.uk/modern-office-design/ https://www.londonlocalservices.co.uk/modern-office-design/#comments Mon, 07 Jan 2013 10:37:10 +0000 https://www.londonlocalservices.co.uk/?p=1989 Continue reading ]]> Even though I work from home, I have always loved offices with great interior design. And when I stumbled upon this modern office, which combines light, space and comfort in a spectacular way, I was amazed. Take a look at it and you will understand what I mean.

modern-office-design-1

This fantastic office is the home of die Taikonauen – a German web design company, located in Berlin. Their own creative department was in charge with the reconstruction of the 420 square meters space which turned into this one of a kind working place.modern-office-design-3

The team have decided that the most important feature in the design of the office should be openness. Therefore, there are almost no doors and the walls are made from glass. Die Taikonauen rely on open and spacious places, which improve the communication between the staff.modern-office-design-5

The employees have the possibility to chat in person, exchange and discuss different ideas. Creativity is an essential characteristic for the company and this is why the office design should encourage the good flow of ideas.modern-office-design-6

The designers have also added a touch of freshness by adding green plants in every room and beside every desk. Along with the natural light, this creates the perfect working atmosphere.modern-office-design-2

Of course, a modern office like this can’t exist without break-out spaces. There is a pool table which can resolve any argument between the colleagues. modern-office-design-7

When the employees are hungry, there is no need to eat at their desks, because there is a lovely kitchen in warm colours, which is fully equipped with an oven, a fridge, a coffee machine and a TV. The great office has a roof terrace too, which welcomes anyone who wishes to think or relax under the sun.modern-office-design-8

The office furniture is also an amazing combination of modern style and functionality. The designers have chosen to use earth colours as basic colour palette. Therefore, the pieces of furniture are white, green, yellow and brown. They contribute to the natural and relaxing working atmosphere.modern-office-design-4

So, there it is – one of the most beautiful office designs I have ever seen. I’m sure that until this point you have agreed with me. I’m also positive that some of my friends, who work in the commercial cleaning business in London, would love to clean such a modern office.
